Bruce kicked off Session 6 of the AI & Automation Masterclass. In this webinar, he spoke about using AI to save time and increase output, basic automation of tasks and workflows using AI agents and security and compliance considerations around AI.
Here are 3 big takeaways from the webinar with Bruce Penson:
The AI Adoption Curve
Bruce broke down AI adoption into 3 stages. The first stage is providing safe access to AI tools. Staff may seek out their own AI tools, however it’s important for there to be a centralised best practice at a business level to ensure data protection. Secondly, designing AI to automate processes. This is where you might see the highest value for your AI, looking at improving workflows to free up more time. And finally, building autonomous agents and a framework to manage those agents.

With any technology innovation, you will always meet some apprehension and scepticism from within your business. Bruce highlights the importance of having AI champions in your team, people who are enthusiastic about implementing new tools. He explained that you can’t force this enthusiasm but in time it will start to spread as people see more use cases for the business.

Using AI in your business is a game changer. But Bruce warns of some of the pitfalls that can come with it. Understand that AI is not always truthful. To combat this, make sure you are providing it with quality data and checking for discrepancies. Count the cost as well by running a clear ROI calculation. Pick tools that solve a real pain-point rather than chasing hype. And lastly, AI requires large computing power, so be conscious of the environmental impact. Treat these considerations as safeguard, addressing hallucinations, cost and carbon footprint keeps your AI rollout both responsible and resilient.
