Bots and Automation for Accountants and Bookkeepers
Kanayo Eruchalu kicked off Session 4 of the AI & Automation Masterclass. In this webinar, he gave a deep dive into bots and automation.
Here are 3 big takeaways from the first webinar with Kanayo Eruchalu:
AI vs Automation
A lot of people talk about AI but not a lot of people know about RPA (Robotic Process Automation) Think of AI as your analytic brain, spotting patterns, predicting cash-flow pinch-points, surfacing insights. RPA bots are the hands, logging in, clicking, copying, and posting data 24/7. When you put the two together, routine work disappears, and the practice gets richer insight at the same time.

Give your bot its own login for the software you use and a dedicated cloud-based PC. Build “human-in-the-loop” checkpoints where judgment is needed; otherwise let the bot run unattended. Your bot can do this overnight so by the time your team comes in they just need to do the things that require human judgement.

You might think someone else is using a tool or software and it seems to be working better for them, but it’s important to think about what you want to do and why before moving. For example, you might find Xero has a better interface than Brightbooks, but if you’re going to be automating it, that doesn’t matter. Find the value in one narrow process before scaling.
